Beguiling Blazers

In this sagging economy, there’s one staple that it’s acceptable to stock up on, darlings: jaunty jackets that go from season to season effortlessly, as layering pieces in winter, and as titillating toppers for spring! Behold the beauties on the Fall 2009 runways, and see CC’s hints for shapes to stockpile for the coming year!

Take stock, and make sure you have at least one jacket in each of the following categories. And remember, darlings, you need not break the bank. In addition to one splurge, shop the discount stores smartly, and pick up vintage pieces and thrifty finds from Forever 21, Target and the like. The styles pictured below can all be found at net-a-porter.com.
1) Boyfriend Blazer – this style is a keeper. Try this or hit the thrift stores, the BF’s closet, etc.
2) Summer Material – a linen or silk blend jacket in a pale shade is ideal for the upcoming seasons. CC adores this 3.1 Phillip Lim pale pink oversized linen blazer.
3) Preppy – Think band jacket, piped prep school blazer, or this Smythe Yachting blazer.
4) Cropped – This fabulous Marc by Marc Jacobs tweed crop blazer does double duty, combining the cropped shape and the tweed material that are so sought after, season to season.
5) Tailored black – A fitted jet blazer, with or without embellishments such as lace, velvet or silk collar, tuxedo elements, etc., is an absolute must for every Fashionista.
6) Asymmetric – looks range from motorcycle chic to postmodern minimalist. Try this Helmut Lang paper leather drape jacket on for size – gorgeous!
7) Leather – CC loves this Rick Owens tie-front leather jacket.

A word to the wise: blazers are far more beguiling when tailored properly. Be sure to take those vintage finds and the big ticket items to your trusted seamstress. Very few jackets fit properly right off the rack. Happy shopping, darlings!
xoxox,
CC
